Founder, Michael Cioffi

A frequent visitor to Tuscany, Michael Cioffi has had a deep interest in Renaissance culture, the arts, and humanities since first studying them in depth as a “great books” major at the University of Notre Dame in the 1970s. It was at Notre Dame, where he graduated magna cum laude, that Cioffi fell in love with the Renaissance and the humanities. Also at Notre Dame, Cioffi began teaching the humanities when as a senior he was selected by the University to instruct a humanities seminar to freshman.

Since 1999, Cioffi has been the managing partner of the Cincinnati office of the law firm, Blank Rome LLP.  Recently Cioffi was selected for inclusion in the 2012 edition of The Best Lawyers in America® in the practice of Commercial Litigation.  Selection to Best Lawyers is based on an exhaustive and rigorous peer-review survey (comprising more than 3.9 million confidential evaluations by top attorneys) and because no fee or purchase is required to be listed, inclusion in Best Lawyers is considered a significant and distinct honor.

In addition to practicing law, Cioffi has been an Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Cincinnati College of Law for more than 25 years, teaching a variety of courses such as Evidence, Trial Practice and a course entitled, Law, Literature and Philosophy a course that explores the foundations of concepts of justice and law and the relationships between these concepts and the larger culture.

Cioffi is also a co-founder and trustee of The Justice Institute for the Legal Profession, a Section 501(c)(3) corporation whose mission is to provide educational programs based on the humanities for lawyers and judges in the United States and Europe. In his capacity as a law professor and faculty member of The Justice Institute, Cioffi has taught hundreds of programs and seminars, including lectures for such distinguished groups as all of the Chief Justices for the individual States of the United States, the America Judicature Society and many other groups of federal and state court judges.
