Castiglioncello del Trinoro – the centuries-old village in which Monteverdi is located – the site of the only privately sponsored archaeological dig in Tuscany. In collaboration with the University of Siena, scholars of prehistory are unlocking secrets of the region’s Etruscan and Sienese past; studying ancient fortifications and medieval castles; and interpreting the material and cultural remains of these great civilizations of centuries gone by. Visitors to Monteverdi have a unique opportunity to observe up-close working archeologists and historians at the site. To learn more about our archeological dig click here.
