Artists & Scholars in Residence
In the 2011 season, the popular Artists & Scholars-In-Residence Series at Monteverdi will feature a variety of celebrated figures and cultural luminaries in the field of art, music, drama, as well as from the wine and culinary worlds. As of this writing, they include:
- The Audubon String Quartet, whose chamber music The New York Times describes as “strikingly beautiful” and “luminescent.” Acclaimed throughout the world for the past three decades, the Quartet has won competitions in France, Brazil, and the United Kingdom. They were the first American string quartet ever to win a first-prize in an international string-quartet competition.
- The world-renowned Chou/Chang Chamber Music Duo. Virtuoso conductor and violinist Paul Hsun-Ling Chou has appeared as a soloist with the New York Chamber Symphony and the International Chamber Orchestra. Together with artist, teacher, and Fulbright Scholar Ann Chang, Chou and Chang form one of the most acclaimed classical duos in contemporary performance.
- The youthful but accomplished Duo Borealis is a distinctive partnership of soprano voice and double bass. The duo weaves classical, traditional folk, and original music into a program that showcases each performer’s virtuosity and musicality.
- Historian Tomasso Astarita was born in Naples and is now a historian at Washington, DC’s Georgetown University, Dr. Astarita’s research focuses on the social and economic history of early modern Italy. His lectures on the Renaissance, Italian and Iberian history, European historiography, and music and theater in early modern Europe are as compelling as they are inspiring.
- And many more.
