As part of its robust artist-in-residence program, Monteverdi Tuscany is pleased to announce the appearance of two world-famous culinary artists, Dominique Crenn and Nancy Silverton. This program will feature cooking classes taught by, and collaborative meals prepared by Chef Crenn and Chef Silverton in Monteverdi’s stunning new Culinary Academy. These immersive experiences will allow 20 gastronomists to view, inquire and taste as these renowned chefs prepare sumptuous meals with local ingredients, in keeping with Monteverdi’s zero-kilometer approach to fine dining.

The Chef in Residence Program
This unique artist-in-residence program will take place from March 21-26, 2020 at the stunning Monteverdi Tuscany boutique hotel, centrally located between Rome and Florence in Southern Tuscany. Guests will enjoy sumptuous cuisine prepared by some of the best chefs in the world while taking in the views of the Val d'Orcia - a UNESCO protected heritage site renowned for its scenic splendor and agricultural bounty, as well as the famed wines of the region. The program will also feature a variety of other culinary-based experiences, including visits to local farms. Guests will also get to learn about some of our most precious ingredients and the producers of these such as olive oil, honey, and cheeses, as well as seminars featuring prestigious winemakers from the area.
This amazing collection of bespoke experiences will take place under the watchful eye of Monteverdi’s own Executive Consulting Chef, Giancarla Bodoni. Chef Bodoni is a pioneer in the organic food movement and past proprietor of Miami’s famed Escopazzo restaurant, the first certified organic Italian restaurant in the United States. Escopazzo enjoyed immense popularity for more than two decades prior to Chef Bodoni taking her talents to Tuscany while assuming direction of Monteverdi’s culinary program in 2012. In addition to guiding the food and beverage program at Monteverdi, Chef Bodoni oversees Monteverdi's sparkling new culinary academy, including cooking classes and unforgettable Chef's Table experiences. Chef Bodoni has been named "Best Organic Chef" by The Miami New Times, a "Critic's Choice" honoree by Food & Wine and her classes have been lauded as among the best culinary classes in the world by "Elite Traveler."
Chef Dominique Crenn is the owner and operator of Atelier Crenn, a Michelin 3-Star restaurant in San Francisco, California. Born in France and perfecting her culinary talent in several countries throughout the world, Chef Crenn is the only female chef in America to have ever attained the prestigious Michelin 3-Star rating. Never one to rest on success, Chef Crenn subsequently attained a Michelin 1-Star rating for her third restaurant, Bar Crenn, in its first year of eligibility. Among her many other honors, Chef Crenn was awarded “Best Female Chef” in 2016 by “World’s 50 Best Restaurant Awards” and received the James Beard Foundation’s Award for “Best Chef: West” (U.S.) in 2018.
Chef Nancy Silverton is the co-owner of Pizzeria Mozza (with locations in Los Angeles and Newport Beach, California) as well as Osteria Mozza, Mozza2Go and chi SPACCA in Los Angeles. Chef Silverton also founded the world-renowned La Brea Bakery, as well as the famed Campanile Restaurant in Los Angeles. Chef Silverton’s past honors are extensive and include being named Food & Wine’s “Best New Chef.” She also earned the James Beard Foundation’s highest honor, attaining their “Outstanding Chef” designation in 2014. In addition, Chef Silverton is the author of eight cookbooks. Her love of Italy goes far beyond its legendary cuisine, maintaining a residence in Italy in Tuscany’s neighboring Umbria region.
