Oboe and Bassoon
A selection of pieces by Couperin, Handel, Beethoven, Rossini, and Jolivet will be performed by this unusual ensemble featuring Armel Descotte, Principal Solo Oboe of La Scala in Milan, and Fany Maselli, Principal Bassoon of the Paris Chamber Orchestra.
Fany Maselli (bassoon)
After graduating from the Verdi Conservatory in Turin, Fany Maselli continued her bassoon studies in Vienna under the guidance of Milan Turkovic, and she specialized at the Hanns Eisler Hochschule in Berlin where she was admitted at Karajan Akademie collaborating with the Berliner Philharmoniker under the batons of Claudio Abbado, Sir Simon Rattle, Daniel Barenboim, Bernard Haitink, Zubin Mehta. Particularly interested in chamber music, Fany Maselli regularly performs alongside artists as Koljja Blacher, François Leleux, Wensel Fuchs, Thomas Zehetmair.
She is a founding member of Pasticcio Barocco ensemble with which she recorded for label Herisson CDs dedicated to composers Leclair and Dismas Zelenka and Telemann’s Sonatas for bassoon and continuo, Yun’s Monologue and Dutilleux’s Sarabande et Cortège. She has performed as a soloist in important halls as Théâtre des Champs Élysées in Paris (with Sir Roger Norrington) and at Palazzo Farnese in Rome. She has collaborated with many symphony and chamber orchestras such as the London Symphony, the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, the Filarmonica della Scala, the Camerata Bern, the Wiener Staatsoper, collaborating with conductors as Andris Nelsons, Bernard Haitink, Sir Colin Davis, Gianandrea Noseda. Fany Maselli has been principal bassoon of the Orchestre de chambre de Paris since 2005 and she is Assistant professor of bassoon at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris.
Armel Descotte (oboe)
In January 2017, Armel Descotte was appointed Principal Oboist of the Orchestra of the La Scala in Milan and he was invited to join the Filarmonica della Scala, after having held the same position at the Orchestre de l’Opéra de Marseille since 2006. He was awarded 1st prize with distinction from the CNSM of Paris in Jacques Tys’ class and following studied baroque oboe with Marcel Ponseele.
With the support of the Singer-Polignac Foundation in Paris, he was invited by many chamber music festivals to work with renowned artists. His recordings of the complete chamber music works for wind instruments by George Onslow, Charles Koechlin, André Caplet, Jacques Ibert. He also accepts an invitation to accompany the Prague Chamber Orchestra during the Young Prague International Music Festival at the Rudolfinum (Dvořák Hall), and is frequently invited to play in many of the worlds’ most prestigious orchestras such as the Orchestre National de France, the Mito Chamber Orchestra (Japan), the Orchestre philharmonique de Radio France, the SWR Sinfonieorchester de Stuttgart, the Orchestre de chambre de Paris, the Orchestre de Paris, the Orchestra of La Scala in Milan, the Filarmonica della Scala. He has performed under the baton of Lorin Maazel, Seiji Ozawa, Valery Gergiev, Riccardo Chailly, Myung-Whun Chung. In February 2017, he was appointed professor at the IESM in Aix-en-Provence and also teaches at the Accademia Teatro Alla Scala. Armel Descotte plays a Marigaux M2 oboe.
