Martin Owen & Margherita Santi

Martin, Principal Horn of the BBC Symphony Orchestra, returns to Castiglioncello after opening the 2018 season. He will present a solo concert performingmusic by Beethoven, Brahms and French composers, accompanied by Margherita Santi at the piano.

Martin Owen French – horn
Martin Owen is regarded as one of Europe’s leading horn players, appearing as a soloist and chamber musician all around the world. Martin currently holds the position of Principal Horn at the BBC Symphony Orchestra, having served as Principal Horn of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra for ten years and as Principal Horn of the Berliner Philharmoniker. He is also Principal Horn of the California-based chamber music ensemble Camerata Pacifica and the UK’s Britten Sinfonia and Haffner Ensemble. His past performances include concertos by Mozart, Richard Strauss, Schumann, Messiaen, Britten, Elliott Carter, Oliver Knussen and Thea Musgrave with orchestras including the BBCSO, the Royal Philharmonic, the BBC Philharmonic, the Orquesta Nacional de España, The Hallé, the New World Symphony, the Bucharest Philharmonic, the Ensemble Modern, the Aalborg Symfoniorkester, the Baltic Philharmonic, the Bergen Philharmonic, the Barcelona Opera Orchestra and the Staatsphilharmonie Nurnberg, and recitals with the Camerata Pacifica. Recent solo performances include Vivaldi’s Concerto for two horns and strings, Stravinsky’s Four Russian Peasant Songs, Schumann’s Konzertstück and Musgrave’s Horn Concerto with the BBCSO, Strauss and Mozart concertos with the Bucharest Philharmonic and Strauss Concerto No. 2 with the Baltic Philharmonic. His recent seasons included chamber and solo engagements in the UK, Italy, France, Poland, Austria, Finland, Romania, China, Australia and the USA, and he has been guest principal horn with the Cleveland Orchestra. Mr. Owen has played on over 300 movie soundtracks, including James Bond, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Gladiator and Pirates of the Caribbean. Martin Owen is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Music, where he is Professor of Horn, and visiting teacher at institutions such as the Hanns Eisler Berlin, the Maurice André Academy Valencia, the Conservatorio de Santiago de Compostela, the USC and UCLA in Los Angeles.

Margherita Santi – piano
Margherita Santi has performed both as a soloist and chamber musician in Italy, Switzerland, Russia, Germany, Austria and Bulgaria, taking part in festivals and music seasons in renowned venues such as the Zürcher Kammerorchester Hall in Zürich, the Rachmaninoff Hall and the Mali Zaal in Moscow, the Yusupov Palace in St. Petersburg, Palazzo Pitti in Florence and the Teatro La Fenice in Venice. She performed as a soloist with the Pazarzik Symphony Orchestra, the Louis Spohr Sinfonietta, the Orchestra Senzaspine and the Nordharz Philarmonisches Orchester. She is also a member of the Trio Sollertinsky. She started studying piano at the age of 5 and graduated with honors from the Verona Conservatory. She was awarded the “Premio Accademia Filarmonica di Verona” and continued her studies at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow. In 2018 she obtained a Master’s Degree with honors in Piano Performance from the Venice Conservatory. She is the artistic director of the concert season Herbst Musicaux in Verona.
