Orazio Sciortino

Virtuoso pianist, composer and amateur cook, Orazio Sciortino returns to Castiglioncello performing one of his most successful programs: virtuoso piano pieces based on famous operas, such as Liszt’s fantasies on Lucia di Lammermoor, Trovatore and Rigoletto, but also the Rosenkavalier fantasy by Grainger.

Pianist and composer Orazio Sciortino regularly collaborates with Italian and international musical institutions such as the Teatro alla Scala, the MiTo Settembremusica, the LaVerdi Orchestra, the Orchestra del Teatro La Fenice, the Bologna Festival, the Ravello Festival, the Haydn Orchestra of Bolzano and Trento, the RAI National Symphony Orchestra, the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, the Ankara Festival, the Konzerthaus in Berlin, the Ottawa Chamber Music Festival, the Festival de Wallonie, the Klara Festival Brussels and the Sala Cecilia Meireles of Rio De Janeiro. Mr. Sciortino has recorded for Dynamic, Bottega Discantica, Limen Music, Claves and Sony Classical.
He composed the opera “La Paura” (Teatro Coccia in Novara) and “La Gattomachia” for the 2016/17 season at La Scala. In 2016, Mr. Sciortino was appointed Krug Ambassador. The prestigious Champagne house commissioned him to compose a piece exclusively dedicated to Krug Grande Cuvée: “Lives through a glass”. The piece is included in his album “Self Portrait” released by Sony Classical, which includes his works for solo piano. For the label Claves, the Ambra Piano Trio and Swiss Ensemble New Wave recorded a CD with his chamber works for piano and strings. Sciortino has a passion for cooking and lives in Milan.
