Beauty and substance
The Val d'Orcia
Welcome to the Tuscany of your imagination; an iconic landscape of verdant countryside, olive groves, stately cypresses and winding Roman roads.
The Val d’Orcia is recognized and protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its singular blend of nature, art and Renaissance heritage. Located in Southern Tuscany, this verdant valley is named after the river that carves its way through the clay hills making up its characteristic rolling horizon.
There are no fewer than 11 natural reserves in the Siena Province. The closest, Pietraporciana, is but steps from our village, and has a shaded climate you can explore by bike or on foot even in the warmest months of the year.
As well as the majestic nature and panoramic scenery, its patchwork of quaint Tuscan villages invites further exploration, from the fairytale fortress of Montalcino to the photogenic flagstones of San Quirico d’Orcia.
And beyond its finely preserved history, landscape and culture, there is a ubiquitous passion for food and wine here that’s powerful enough to satisfy any appetite.
A Renaissance region
Tuscany
Known for the beauty of its landscapes, its rich cultural legacy, delicious food and the romance, architecture and artistry of its capital, Florence, Tuscany is a region that has captivated hearts and imaginations for centuries. The world’s finest examples of Renaissance art, literature, sculpture and philosophy found their origins here, as did visionaries like Michaelangelo, Dante, Galileo and Signorelli.
Tuscan cuisine is revered for its simplicity, with the focus always on showcasing superb local ingredients in dishes like panzanella, pici all’aglione and bistecca alla fiorentina. And speaking of superb, we’re fortunate enough to be home to some of the world’s most famous and respected wines.
