Setting
Perched atop a dramatic, ancient volcanic crag, the village of Castiglioncello del Trinoro commands sweeping panoramas of the surrounding Tuscan landscape.
There are hills and valleys, vineyards and fields of green and gold in every direction, revealing historic hill towns like Montalcino and Pienza, Siena and the peak of Sassoforte.
So exceptional is our vantage, from the main village square you can see the Appennino Umbro-Marchigiano and snow-scattered summits of the Monti Sibillini on a clear day. From here you can drink in the profound beauty with a refreshing aperitivo in hand.
Eternal beauty
History
Over millennia, the village of Castiglioncello del Trinoro in Tuscany has been imprinted by those ancestors who came before. Here, history whispers through the landscape, etched on every timeworn stone.
The neo-Paleolithic and Bronze age settlers left their artifacts and cave drawings on nearby Monte Cetona. The Etruscan civilization, who worshipped the gods of Monte Amiata from this majestic perch, built necropolises and a culture that gave rise to Rome, first founded as an Etruscan village.
Castiglioncello del Trinoro would witness Roman soldiers enforcing the golden age of Pax Romana and see pilgrims and popes traverse the Via Francigena, along with the great artists, philosophers and scientists of the Renaissance.
To walk the streets of this ancient village is truly to step out of time.
