At 508 meters above sea level, Citta della Pieve, soars above Umbria with mezmorizing views of the Val di Chiana and Lake Transimeno, a site known for Hannibal's defeat of the Romans in an epic battle, killing 15,000 Roman soldiers.The historic center is home to many types of stunning architecture: Renansance, Baroque, Rococco and Neoclassical. The town is also known for the precious saffron whose use dates back to the middle ages and flavors many traditional dishes.
Orvieto's origins date back to the Etruscan period, and it was an important center during Roman times and the Middle Ages, serving as a papal residence in the 13th century.
